Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid Review
Hey Dreamers and Creators!
The liquid lipstick trend has been going strong and honestly I don't think it's going anywhere any time soon. Many brands are coming out with their own variations of the product and there are so many factors that differentiate them from each other. I am still on the hunt for my potential HG liquid lipstick. There are quite a few liquid lipsticks I want to try and compare with the ones I currently have. However, I'm currently on a low-buy at the moment (saving those dollars for something fun~) so the comparison will have to wait.
Anyways, today I want to share my thoughts on these Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquids. The line has 10 shades, which are Nude Thrill, Nude Flush, Pink Charge, Electric Pink, Orange Shot, Berry Boost, Fuchsia Ecstasy, Rebel Red, Possessed Plum, and Vivid Violet. I have the shades Rebel Red and Nude Flush, let's get to know them.

Packaging: All 10 colors of the Vivid Matte Liquid line has the same packaging style. It's simple and to the point. The see-through rectangular containers show the colors of the liquid lipsticks clearly. Each liquid lipstick comes with a built-in doe foot applicator as well.
Color: I got the colors Rebel Red and Nude Flush. Rebel Red is a classic, rich red color. Nude Flush is a dusty rose color (pinky nude). It's very pretty and it's my favorite of the two.
Texture: This liquid lipstick has a creamy liquid texture.
Scent: If you look at the ingredient list you'll find that perfum/ fragrance is added to the liquid lipsticks. It can be strong for some people.
Michelle's Thoughts: Where do I begin with these 2? I feel like they belong to different liquid lipstick collections. Their pigmentation and applications are completely different from each other despite the fact that they pretty much have the same ingredients (except for colors added). However, both liquid lipsticks do have a couple of things in common. One is that neither dries completely matte on its own. Yup, you read right. Despite the word 'matte' being in their name, they don't dry completely matte by themselves. You can blot and powder to make them matte, otherwise the finish is generally silky with shine. Both liquid lipsticks also create this numbing/ tingly sensation when you apply the product on your lips. For some people this can be unpleasant, while for others it might not be a big deal. Lastly, these liquid lipsticks are not long lasting. They may last a couple of hours, however, as you eat, drink, and talk, the colors can begin to fade. I did find that the liquid lipsticks do stain the lips a bit. So for some colors, even if you don't reapply, the stain can still look good.
You guys already know my favorite of the 2 is Nude Flush. The dusty rose color is gorgeous and great for day to day wear. The formula is smooth and it applies easily. It looks great on the lips. I actually like it more with its silky finish but from time to time I'll blot it to make it a bit matte. As I mentioned before, the liquid lipsticks are not long lasting but they can stain the lips a bit. So with lighter shades like this one, you can get away without touch ups as the stain will still look pretty good. However, with darker shades, it'll be a slightly different story.
Rebel Red is my least favorite of the 2 liquid lipsticks. I really like the color but the application/ pigmentation is just off. The pigmentation for Rebel Red is really uneven, making application difficult. I do have to apply multiple coats to try and get the even look. However, this liquid lipsticks doesn't layer well when it comes to multiple coats. The product will clump on the lips easily. Even when I left it to dry and even blot then apply another layer, I can still run into issues.
Pros:
-great colors
-inexpensive
-travel friendly
-can stain lips
Cons:
-not long lasting
-doesn't dry matte on its own
-can cause numbing/ tingly sensation
-some colors can have uneven pigmentation and be difficult to apply
Michelle's Rating: (Nude Flush: ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ♡) (Rebel Red: ❤ ❤ ♡ ♡ ♡)
Final Thoughts: I'm happy at least 1 of the 2 shades worked out okay for me. It's sad to see that 2 colors from the same line can perform so differently. Even though neither products are long lasting and they really don't dry matte by themselves, their beautiful shades won them some points. I really like Nude Flush and can see myself use if often. However, I think Rebel Red is likely to collect dust in some corner because it's just too much trouble.
Would I purchase them in the future? I think I'm going to try other liquid lipsticks instead. These 2 Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquids left me wishing for something better and I hope I can find that on the market. While I do like Nude Flush, I don't know if it's worth repurchasing or not. Do I think these are worth a try? Um, I'd say buy at your own risk. Know that these do not dry matte on their own (you'll need to blot/powder), they aren't long lasting, some can have pigmentation/application issues. However, if you do love dusty rose shades, I recommend checking out Nude Flush in stores because it really is pretty.
