Benton Honest Cleansing Foam Review
Hello Beauties~
Today I will be reviewing the Benton Honest Cleansing Foam!
Benton is a Korean beauty brand famous for their Snail Bee and Aloe skin care lines. I am fairly new to the brand but I have heard a lot about them in the past couple of months. A lot of fellow bloggers have been loving their Snail Bee line and consider them their Holy Grail products. Like most products/companies, there are always positive and negative reviews of them. Benton is no different. While there have been plenty of positive publicity on their products there has also been negative publicity. Especially on their contaminated products. Although the contamination rarely happens (once last year and once this year so far), it was enough for me to have second thoughts on purchasing and trying this brand's products.
Still, when the opportunity presented itself for me to test out a Benton product, I hopped to it. Since I've read and heard so much wonderful things about Benton products, I was really excited to review their Honest Cleansing Foam. Let's get on to the review!
Benton Honest Cleansing Foam
150g, $13.98 (Jolse)
Product Description: A natural foam cleanser made to cleanse the skin while moisturizing it to minimize dryness of the skin. It will soothe the skin during cleansing without tightening it, plus it will cleanse the pores as well. The cleansing foam is formulated with natural extracts such as Centella Asiatica extract, aloe leaf extract, and Portulaca Oleracea extract. It's great for all skin types. To use, squeeze an appropriate amount on to the palm of your hand and foam up with water. Gently massage the foam on your face and rinse off with warm water after.
Ingredient list in picture above.
This foam cleanser came in a tube like form, as seen in the picture above. It's fairly large for a foam cleanser, weighing at 150g. I like that the packaging is simple and to the point. It came with instructions and ingredients in both English and Korean which is wonderful because a lot of Korean beauty products do not provide ingredients list and/or instructions in English and it can be hard and time consuming to translate them into English.
The Honest Cleansing Foam comes with a seal as seen in the picture below. So make sure to check for that when you purchase this product. If the seal is broken or not there, you'll want to contact the people you purchased your Honest Cleansing Foam from.
My Thoughts: If you frequent my blog, you might know by now that I have an extensive patch testing process for all the products that I try/use. Since I have combination to oily skin, that's sensitive and acne prone I want to make sure that the products I am using on my skin would not irritate my skin, cause it to break out or something worse. My patch testing period is generally 2 weeks and it's a 3 stage process. Sometimes, I will give exceptions for some products, like spot treatments, so I can test their spot treating effects sooner. I also give exceptions to facial cleansers, so instead of the 2 week patch testing period, it'll be shortened to 1 week.
After the patch testing period, I begin my month/2 months long trial/testing period on the product before I share my thoughts and reviews on them. Creams, cleansers, etc. have a month long testing period and clay masks, wash-off masks, etc. have a 2 months long testing period. Sheets masks are tested differently. If you like a detailed post on how I patch test my products and on how my product trial period works, please comment below to let me know and I will write a post on that.
Although I have not used this foam cleaner for a month yet, I want to share my thoughts on this product with my readers, and I will explain why I did not follow my normal testing and trial for this product below.
The Benton Honest Cleansing Foam is a cream foam cleanser. You can see in the picture above that it's white in color and rather thick. The foam cleanser also have a bit of pearly shine to it as well. Here I drew on the back of my hand with gel eyeliners, lipstick, and liquid eye liner. Although, I normally remove my makeup with cleansing balm/oil before any facial cleanser, I usually use this method to show how well the cleanser cleanses. To foam up the cream cleanser, I just added a bit of water and it foams up very well. It took a bit of scrubbing to remove the eyeliners with the cream cleanser and you will see on the last picture of this post that the lipstick was not fully washed off, even though I rubbed really hard. Much harder than I would ever rub on my face. So, if you choose to use this cream cleanser, I recommend you use the double cleanse method, remove your makeup with a cleansing balm/oil and then cleanse with foam cleanser.
I tested this product and here's what I've learned. The Benton Honest Cleansing Foam is a rather drying foam cleaner. It's very drying on my combination skin and cause it to feel tight and dry after cleansing. Although, it's not so drying on my oily t-zone. I ended my testing period on the product early because I don't like the drying feeling of this cleanser, especially when it promotes itself as a moisturizing cleanser. Personally, I don't think this works on my combination skin (in the winter times I have combination skin and summer times I have oily skin). Although the cleanser's packaging says it's good for all skin types, it seems that it is really not the case.
Since this foam cleanser is drying on my combination skin it ended being a bit irritating on my skin, which I did not like. Luckily, it did not cause me to break out or anything. I would not recommend this cleanser to people with dry skin types or combination skin with dry patches, as this drying cleanser might be too dry for those skin types. I am unsure about how it will work on oily skin types but I might try this out in the summer time since my skin changes from combination to oily to see if it will be better for oily skin types. I will report back on this product in the summer time on whether it will be great for oily skin types or not. Just in case it does not work out, I can always use it as a makeup brush cleanser.
As you can see in this picture above, the cleanser foams up really nicely. The cleanser itself have a light fresh soap scent that's not overwhelming at all. Personally, I am not a big fan of the scent. although it smells like fresh bar soap, it really isn't that pleasant. It smells cheap and seemed as if they just turned bar soap into cream like form. You'll see in the picture below that it does not completely remove makeup. A bit of the heart I drew with my lipstick can still be seen, although majority of it has been washed off. I did not like that it took a lot of rubbing to remove the makeup. So again, if you choose to use this cleanser I would recommend using the double cleanse method with it.
My Rating: ❤ ❤ ♡ ♡ ♡
Final Thoughts: I had high hopes for this Benton Honest Cleansing Foam since I've heard so much great things about Benton's Snail Bee and Aloe lines. But I guess you can't have everything, or in this case can't be good at everything. This foam cleanser is definitely disappointing to say the least. It markets itself as a moisturizing cleansing foam, however, it is really drying. It also promotes itself as a product great for all skin types, but that is clearly not the case. I left it 2 hearts for a couple of reasons. One it's because this foam cleanser did not cause my sensitive skin to break out, although it did cause irritation due to its drying effects. Two, it's not so drying on my oily t-zone, so I am hoping that come summer time, this cleanser would be great to control the excess sebum on my oily skin. Three, the cleanser comes in a large tube of 150g and it only cost around $13, not bad. Lastly, the product packaging had ingredients, instructions, intro, and cautions in both English and Korean, which is very convenient.
I will test out this cleanser again in the summer time. However, due to its drying effects, I have set this cleanser aside until the summer times.
