Review: Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner
Etude House is a popular Korean brand that makes both skin care products and cosmetics. The Wonder Pore Freshner has been raved about a lot and is considered one of their best sellers. (For those of you who are thinking that Freshner is spelled wrong and it should be 'freshener', I feel your pain. But who knows maybe Etude House meant to spell it that way.) I bought this product from Yesstyle, a while back for $27.
I love Etude House products, most of them are just so darn cute. When I was recommended by a friend to try this product, since I have combination to oily skin, I jumped at it. That 7 in 1 sounded promising and it's gotta be doing something right for it to be a best seller.
Anyways, I got the 500ml bottle so it's quite big. It's also available in smaller sizes as well. The product claims that it's a 7 in 1 product as it refines skin tones, deep cleanses pores, minimize appearances of pores, control sebum, moisturize, maintains ph 4.5 to within 1 ph, and keep elasticity of pores.
Here's a list of the ingredients, I try to take a picture of it, but my phone just won't focus (gah!).
Water, Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract, Alcohol Denat, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Glycereth-26 Betaine, Sea WAter, PEG-60 Hydrogenated CAstor Oil, Dosium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Cycmbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Prunus Mume Fruit Water, Uncaria Gambir Extract, Nelumba Nucifera Flower Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract, Sanguisorba Officinalis Root Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Extract, Taraxacum Officinale (Dandelion) Leaf Extract, Chrysanthemum Morifolium Flower Extract, Chamaecyparais Obtusa Water, Pulsatilla Koreana Extractm Dosdium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol
According to CosDNA, Alcohol Denat has a irritant rating of 5, which means medium hazard for the skin. For those who can't tolerate alcohol in your skin care products, you might want to avoid this product. If your skin is really sensitive, you should also avoid this product. I don't know enough on how harmful or not alcohol is to your skin. However, personally, I've been using this product in moderation due to its alcohol content. It doesn't feel drying on my skin but I know there are possible negative effects in using products with alcohol.
My Rating: ❤ ❤ ❤ ♡ ♡
I had high hopes for this product, especially since it was raved as a best seller and even holy grail for some people. However, I can't say I love this product as much as I thought I would have. The 7 in 1 aspect of the freshner was what draw me to this product. After months of using this product, I can say that while some of the 7 properties of the product did initially do its job, most didn't and many were short lived.
There are several ways to apply the product. One is to use a cotton pad on the pump (picture below) and pump out the desired amount and gently wipe on skin. Another, is to transfer the product into a mist bottle and use as a mist. I usually used this product with a cotton pad, while I did try the mist bottle idea, I was not found of it. I do love how the product have a cooling effect when I apply it to the skin.
The product has nice packaging and easy to use pump, which is great. It's not super expensive and comes with a lot of product, which is another plus. I can't say it really cleanses pores or keeps the elasticity of the pores but it does remove excess oil. While it controls sebum when you first apply the product, it does not last long. The product does minimize the appearance of pores but that effect does not last long either and I can't say it refines the skin tones. It does moisturize a little though. As for the ph level, it is somewhat effective in balancing it since it can feel cool and refreshing when you apply the product. It's got a light, fresh scent that isn't strong. Overall, while it does not deliver on the 7 properties, it is an okay toner. It has not harmed my skin in anyway and it has not helped it either.
So Would I buy this product again in the future?
Probably not. I think I'll want to try other toners instead.
I still like many Etude House products and there are many that I want to try. However, it seems that their Wonder Pore Freshner is just not the product for me.
